About Me

Katara Washington Patton

I am a wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend. I enjoy the circle of people I am blessed to call family and the variety of flowers I call friends. God has allowed me to combine all of my passions with my career experience and education. I am a writer, editor, teacher, youth leader and minister.

On this blog, I will share random thoughts, theological perspectives, cultural explorations, ideas on love, life, fitness, health, goals and many other areas of interest.

Come journey with me! Leave comments, ask questions, engage in dialogue. The only rule is that we respect each other. You don’t have to agree, but no dissing….okay?!

Let’s see what’s up in our world!

Career

I’ve had the amazing opportunity to work at some fine places and to write, edit, produce some wonderful material. I’ve worked in editorial at Weekly Reader, Jet Magazine, Urban Ministries (UMI), The African American Pulpit and McGraw-Hill Education. I’m currently acquisitions director for children and family at Tyndale House Publishers (Tyndale.com). It’s been a thrilling ride to be able to work in the field of my choice.

Other stuff

I teach a writing class to seminarians through the SCUPE/CAATS program (scupe.org). I’ve been involved in youth ministry at my church (rites of passage for young girls and Sunday school teacher for teen class). I’ve led workshops on youth ministry training, curriculum writing, publishing, living as single Christians, and depression in women of faith.

I am native of Thibodaux, Louisiana, and a resident of Chicago. My father and siblings still reside close to our roots in Louisiana.
