Water Your Garden
August 26, 2018
We planted a garden this year…something we said we’d do when we moved into our home. Yes, we’ve been here two years and just got around to completing one of our goals, but hey, better late than never. (This is one of the biggest takeaways I’ve received on this journey–keep the goal in mind even if you don’t hit the deadline! You’ll never get there if you quit. Hence, I’m writing my first blog for 2018; yet another lesson, guilt will keep you paralyzed…so move on.)
One thing has really stood out to me as we care for our tiny garden. When you pour water on it (well, okay, when my husband waters it…or even better, God sends the rain), those wilted looking plants can perk up and stand almost immediately. The before rain/water and after rain/water shots are quite astounding. Water does the crops good.
Likewise, water does our bodies good too. Yes, the liquid stuff we drink can help us maintain good health, but think about what we need for our spirits. For me, water for my spirit is: intentional prayer, reflecting, reading God’s word in several forms (like a devotional, straight from the Bible, etc), journaling, exercise, sitting with my emotions and processing through them rather than letting them control me and run out of control). I had been a bit dehydrated earlier this summer and then I started doing more of these things. And just like those crops, I perked up.
Have you watered your garden lately? What is your water?
